From 1380 to Alexander Vauthier S/S 2018

Can you spot the similarities above?
The mannequin in the image above is wearing a doublet, which is an English style fashionable piece of clothing. It is usually made of silk with embroidered fur.
It is slim on the arms and more loosely fit on the body, creating a well composed overall look. The shoulders are somewhat exaggerated, with a pleated sleeve head. The doublet is long sleeves and reaches the man’s upper thigh. Sable or marten fur is also lined on the ends of the garment, creating an extra luxurious overall look.
This look is re-created by Alexander Vauthier (featured in Vogue). The coat is a modernized version of the doublet, and reaches below the knees. The shoulders have bold edges and are padded to create an even bolder look. The plaid lines designed on it also help express the era in which the designer is trying to represent. The coat includes expressive qualities parallel to those in the doublet, such as the colors and designs. The designs on the modern coat are less complicated and royal than the ones created on the male’s doublet. Nevertheless, the simplicity of the designs and colors used are elegant and sophisticated.
