Old Fashioned Softer Silhouette Dress

In the Rococo times, fashion evolved slowly however there was a change in their dress trends. The trend included bulky but soft silhouettes, with wider sleeves. The dresses were generally made of three different parts; a bodice, a petticoat, and a gown on top. That being said, different fabric was used for each part produced in many countries. The lady above is wearing a fancy and large dress from the Rococo period, representing the royal look of the European courts of the late 16th century. The designs, fabrics, and accessories used for this dress represent royalty and luxury.

This magnificent gown was designed by Alexander Mcqueen as part of the Fall 2013 ready-to-wear collection. Designed with great effort and detail, it successfully portrays the Baroque/Rococo period with the ruffle collar and firm bodice. The dress’s aesthetic is clearly Baroque, yet has many modern characteristics to it such as sleeveless shoulders and an open area at the top of the bodice.
